What are the dates for the course?
The course will run from January 4–18.
What course is it and are there prerequisites?
This course is offered as a Biology course (for students who have completed the BISC 160 series) and as an Environmental Studies course for those who have not. Both versions are upper-level courses (397 or 448) and carry 4 credits. Students from any major may participate.
Where will we be staying during the course?
The course will take place aboard the Princess Cruises ship Sun Princess (a large, new ship launched in 2025). Students are grouped in pairs in cabins.
What is the format of the course?
This is a Socratic course: on days at sea, you’ll join a lively group discussion of assigned readings. On port days, the group will undertake guided trips ashore.
What is the cost of the course and what is (and is not) included?
The tuition for the January 2026 offering is $4,500. This includes:
  • Tuition
  • Insurance
  • Hotel room in Ft. Lauderdale on January 3
  • Your cabin on the ship for the 2-week sailing
  • All meals aboard (24 hours)
  • All group excursions ashore
  • Daily onboard gratuities
Not included:
  • Transportation to Ft. Lauderdale on January 3 (arriving a day early helps avoid flight-delay issues)
  • Transportation home/Oxford on January 18
  • Personal spending money onboard or during free time ashore
